We’re deeply honored to be joined by members of the Bay of Pigs. These are great people, amazing people. I have wonderful memories from our visit during the campaign. That was some visit; that was right before the election. I guess it worked, right? Boy, Florida as a whole in this community supported us by tremendous margins and we appreciate it. But including one of the big honors, and that was the honor of getting the Bay of Pigs award just before the election. And it’s great to be gathered in a place named for a true hero of the Cuban people.

As JFK adjusted his bow tie in the mirror and Jackie picked lint off his tux, the freedom-fighters of Brigada 2506 faced a few adjustments of their own. 50th ANNIVERSARY

By the “Martyrs of Assault Brigade 2506” monument in Miami, veterans and other Cuban-Americans will engage in their annual ritual of calling out the names of the roughly 100 men killed in the invasion, as the crowd chants “Presente” after each one. In New Jersey, veterans will mark the day with a similar ceremony
